Actually, the summer of 2008 wasn’t that hot; it was cool in every way. From the cool air conditioning to the even cooler participants, the Maya West Writing Project offered a natural habitat for writers replete with good food, drink, computers, books, art materials and infectious energy. The muse awaited us daily in different forms, different degrees, but always lurking waiting to be transmuted by our individual writing styles.
Dr. Howard Gardner would be proud of the MWWP, since his theories of Multiple Intelligences were continually implemented. Our activities included writing using art, music, drama, videos, culinary arts and technology. We expressed ourselves in every way including book talks, videoconferencing and through examining our oral histories. Our guest speakers were spectacular providing us with their talents, secrets and wisdom while opening up our collective consciousness. Additionally, we learned from each other using our classroom lesson plans to demonstrate
We began exposing ourselves through our memoirs and personal reflections and completed our journey with an open house to share what we had learned and dedicated to the task before us to continue our mission.
