I think everyone will agree that the workshop on November8th was a complete success.  This was our debut and the TCs really showed their stuff. I felt so proud of everyone and we were also very proud of ourselves.

Out of this first workshop I think that you all realized that you can do this work well. Did you see how happy everyone was? How happy the teachers were  to share their experiences? We have the gift through this program to open up those spaces for teachers, spaces that are so badly needed. When we talk and write together we empower ourselves and then you all know what happens? “We got the Power!”  hey!

Thank you all for being the wonderful and wondrous people that you are by taking on the responsibility where ever you saw it and making the day go so well. It was you all who made it so great!

And it was so good to see almost everyone there!

MayaWest Writing Project will hold its first teacher workshop on November 8th 2009. The purpose of this workshop is to introduce teachers to the MayaWest Writing Project and what it does. We will discuss why writing matters and why it should be taught in our schools. Teacher consultants who went through the MayaWest Intensive Summer Institute will offer demonstration lessons on ways that they have  introduced and taught writing successfully in their classrooms. There will be presentations for elementary, intermediate and secondary teachers and will be offered in Spanish and English. See attached flyer mwwp-flyer-revised

Registration is done on-line or the $20 can be paid though recaudaciones. The payment window is open from 8 to 11AM and 1 to 4PM.  Any questions regarding the workshop can be sent to nwwp@uprm.edu

When we met in august we set up a tentative monthly list of some things that we wanted to accomplish when we met. here is the original plan. Please look it over because we may need to amend some of it at a later date. I think we are good through December though.yearlongplan2008-2009

Saturday, September 06, 2008 Meeting Minutes
•    Introduction and review of last meeting minutes
•    Ellen presented the new Blog for the MayaWest Writing Project.
•    Discussion and presentation of the use of the group e-mail, which was created last meeting.
•    Alma explained the concept of “Noche Fogata”
•    Discussion of activities done inside our classrooms which involve writing, in the first month of classes.
•    Discussion of our first workshop to other teachers.
o    Title for workshop: “Writing from Within: From Personal to Practical”
o    Focus: Teacher changing and moving writing to practical used. Students can relate to it, idealistic with the students’ life.
•    It will take place in November 8, 2008, instead of our already agreed-on meeting
•    Teachers will be charged a fee in order to provide food
•    Teachers will be given contact hours
•    Childcare provided
•    Limit: 40 teachers (preferably those who are good candidates for, or wish to participate in next summer institute)
•    Possibly get T-shirts!
•    Presentation of “Rubrics” by Ariana and Zenaida.
o    Samples will be posted on the MWWP Blog.
o    New samples done for our classes will be discussed next meeting.
